Gastric Band Hypnotherapy

Posted on Oct 06, 2011 by Susan Boggon Smith

I have conducted hundreds of these sessions now to over 200 clients since qualifying with Professor Keith Hearne at the European College of Hypnotherapy.   No therapy is guaranteed and clients need to be motivated, but efficacy is good with about 90% of my clients achieving success with the techniques I use.  I find about 50% of clients succeed in the first two sessions to lose weight, with perhaps 2 or 3 out of every 50 or so finding no benefit.   About 50% of clients go on to have a further 4 to 5 sessions, and of those about 87 % lose weight and feel satisfied with the results.  People who do not achieve success sometimes give up, and I think that if they continued, they could still benefit.  But these are often clients who could not lose weight using any method before seeing me, including real gastric band surgery in some cases.  I have seen 4 clients who had real gastric band surgery which failed, and then came to me for weight management and hypnotherapy.  Quite often there are underlying issues that may need to be resolved before weight management can be successful.

Most of my clients have tried lots of different diets and 'yo yo'd' over many years, putting weight back on as soon as they left a particular club or slimming regime.

I always say that I am not a dietician, and clients can work with what ever diets suit them best.   I work with the conscious motivation and the unconcious and the 'gut' conciousness.

The funniest session I had, was with a client in her own home.  Her cat decided to 'join in' and jumped on her tummy while she was in deep hypnosis, reclining on her settee.   The cat proceeded to 'walk on the spot', literally 'kneading' her tummy while I was conducting the gastric band hypnotic session.   Eventually I was able to encourage the cat to leave, with some difficulty!

At the end of the session the lady said that she had not even noticed! feeling more relaxed than she could ever remember feeling in her life.   I told her about the cat, and said that I was certain the cat was attempting to join in and do the Gastric Band Operation!!    Adding a little Cat Gut perhaps!

Next time I'll have to consider building in a strategy for pets as well as the normal strategies for noise, disturbances, fire alarms, phones, feelings of 'cramp', and even loud gurgling tummies from time to time.   Best wishes   Sue
