Why Health Psychology?
Health Psychologists work with people who have a wide range of health problems. Using psychological knowledge, Health Psychologists take a completely individualised approach.
I assess your difficulties with you by making a working partnership: you bring all your expertise about you and I bring my experience and training in a variety of psychological approaches.
Then, if it’s appropriate, I develop a psychotherapy intervention specific to you as an individual, couple, family, group or organisation. If I don’t think I can meet your needs, or if I think I know someone who can meet them better, I’ll say so.
Values:
The overarching goal of Well aHead is to provide quality services that genuinely benefit our clients. Well aHead holds the wellbeing of clients and of the broader community at the centre of its practice, and is committed to delivering person-focussed services of the highest quality and excellence.
About me:
As a Consultant Health Psychologist, I have a PhD in psychology, as well as a Masters Degree and undergraduate training in psychology. I also have Diplomas in Hypnotherapy, Neuro-linguistic Programming and Life Coaching.
In addition to my NHS post I also run a private practice, providing specialist psychological therapy. The focus is on improving people’s ability to manage their health conditions and adjust to the different circumstances and challenges faced, so that stress reduces and the quality of their general life can improve. The ultimate aim is to enable clients to live fulfilling lives despite their health conditions.
Work approach:
The therapy I offer can be best understood as CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), hypnotherapy, NLP (neuro-linguistic programming), relaxation therapy and coaching. However, I use a variety of psychological principles and theories in my clinical practice, drawn from a broad knowledge base of various different therapeutic techniques/ approaches and clinical expertise gained over the years. This enables me to tailor an approach suitable to meet the needs of the person sitting in front of me at any given time.
Broadly, I consider how life experiences affect each person I see, in terms of how they view themselves, how they think, how this makes them feel, behave towards others, live within their relationships and their broader world. All this information can be drawn on to highlight the best way forward for the person, to break the cycles of unhappiness, discontent or distress that he or she is currently trapped in.
Keeping you safe:
Anyone who calls themselves a Health Psychologist is registered with the Health Professions Council, which checks that the way we work is safe and effective, including things like:
* Making sure we have the right training to use the title
* Keeping our work confidential
* Continuing professional development to keep our skills updated
* Reflecting on and continually learning from our work
* Having a complaints system
I have enhanced (full) CRB clearance.
I have full indemnity insurance for my work
