War Trauma

Another type of trauma - one of the first ones recognized - is that caused by war. Recent studies show that actual changes in the brain may last for a year after returning from deployment. One example of an event that can cause significant war trauma is a friendly fire incident. The psychological damage from this can last for many years after the event. Symptoms of this type of trauma include problems with memory, reliving the event, anger, irritability, and a withdrawal from friends and family among other difficulties. Most people avoid treatment for this type of trauma for far too long. This is why we offer online therapy for this and other types of trauma here at Mentaline.com.

Causes of War Trauma

When in a constant stressful state of mind when deployed, the brain begins to function differently so that it can be better suited for survival in the harsh elements that come with war. Cognitive thinking may be affected when soldiers face life threatening situations for an extended period of time. This can last when they return from a war zone, possibly leading to trauma caused by the war. Beyond the physiological changes that happen in the brain, war can cause people to change dramatically. This can lead to relationship problems and a host of other mental disorders.

Symptoms and Dangers of War Trauma

The symptoms of war trauma are similar to those found in other types of trauma. They revolve around the changes that occur in the brain while deployed. For example, soldiers need to think and react quickly to survive. Staying in this state of mind for long periods of time isn't really necessary or helpful in civilian social settings. In addition, a person may experience problems with attention deficit. In the battlefield facts that aren't relevant to the task at hand are usually pushed back in the mind for survival reasons. This can lead to problems with attention when returning to the civilian world. Many people also exhibit the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder or may even be diagnosed with PTSD as well.

Treatment for War Trauma

Here at Mentaline.com, you can find highly skilled professionals that specialize in this and other types of war trauma. Because of everything soldiers go through when in combat situations, it's important for them to get help when they return to the "normal" world. We offer online therapists that can give practical information that can be helpful with reintegrating into civilian life and making changes to cognitive thinking. Sometimes just the knowledge that they're not alone is enough to help with treatment for some people.

Definition of War Trauma
