Mental health nurses work with kids, adults and older people suffering from different mental health conditions. For many people mental illness is brought on by a crisis, and it is the job of mental health nurse to help people recover from their illness. The range of conditions varies from neuroses to psychological and personality disorders. Not only does the mental health nurse listen and helps a person mentally, but they also ensure the correct administration of medication, injections, and monitoring the results of the treatment.
There are two ways to qualify as a registered mental health nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC). There is a two-year accelerated course, which requires a relevant degree in biological-, and social sciences or psychology. The other way is to finish a three-year degree program. A registered mental health nurse (RMN), may work with patients in their own homes, in community health care centre, or a secure housing unit.
